Four Key Functional Modules
The functional design of Formitek's 4 kW bidirectional AC/DC converter focuses on four key strengths: bidirectional conversion, wide-range compatibility, multiple protection features, and intelligent high-efficiency operation.
Power Conversion Module
The Hub for Energy Conversion
As the “heart” of the device, the power conversion module adopts a full-bridge topology and high-performance power devices. With fast switching speed and strong load capacity, it efficiently enables bidirectional conversion between AC and DC power.
The module features built-in precision voltage and current detection circuits. Output voltage monitoring accuracy reaches ±0.5 V, while current monitoring accuracy reaches ±1 A, ensuring accurate and controllable power output for different load requirements.
Control and Communication Module
The Intelligent Control “Brain”
Equipped with a high-performance MCU microcontroller, the product supports both CAN 2.0B and RS-485 communication protocols. Commands can be issued through the control panel or backend system to adjust voltage and current, switch operating modes, and monitor real-time status feedback.
It also supports CAN / RS-485 wake-up functions, UDS firmware updates, and CAN Bus-Off functionality. With dual control through hardwired signals and communication signals, the system enables flexible sleep and wake-up switching, making it compatible with vehicle and energy storage system control logic.
Thermal and Structural Module
A Protective Shield for Stable Operation
Thermal Design:
The product adopts an external air-cooling design with optimized airflow channels to rapidly dissipate heat during operation. This ensures stable performance across a wide temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, making it suitable for high-temperature, high-humidity, and other demanding environments.
Structural Design:
The modular structure makes maintenance easier. With an IP65 protection rating, the housing resists salt spray, dust, and splashing water, meeting the requirements of harsh application environments such as marine vessels and outdoor energy storage systems.
Interface and Housing Module
Compact, Lightweight, and Easy to Install
Connector Configuration
DC Output Interface:
The black and red terminals on the left side are the DC output terminals.
• Red terminal: DC output positive, DC+
• Black terminal: DC output negative, DC-
This is the DC output after power conversion and is used to connect to the traction battery.
AC Input Interface:
The two circular aviation connectors on the right side serve as the AC input interface.
These connectors are used to connect to the grid or charging station and provide AC power to the device.
Dimensions
Dimensions, excluding interface connectors:
325 mm × 195 mm × 115 mm
The compact size makes the product easy to install in vehicle-mounted applications.
Appearance and Protection
The housing adopts a modular design. The resistance between the shielding layer and the housing is ≤100 mΩ, ensuring safe grounding. The product has also passed reliability tests such as salt spray testing and high-low temperature cycling.

Applications
Automotive and Gasoline-to-Electric Conversion Applications
Suitable for electric vehicles and gasoline-to-electric conversion models, meeting onboard energy storage and power replenishment needs. In charging mode, it accurately replenishes power to the traction battery. In inverter mode, it can serve as an emergency power source for onboard equipment or external loads.
Electric Tools and Electric Motorcycles
As a dedicated charger, the product supports AC 220 V grid charging and battery-based emergency inverter power supply. Its wide-voltage compatibility allows it to adapt to batteries used in different equipment models. Portable and efficient, it helps solve power supply challenges for outdoor operations.
Marine Energy Storage Systems
With an IP65 protection rating and wide-temperature adaptability, the converter is well suited to humid, vibration-prone marine environments. It supports battery pack charging and discharging management, while also powering onboard AC equipment, ensuring stable electricity use during navigation.
Small Energy Storage Stations
Suitable for small-scale energy storage scenarios such as homes and shops. During the day, electricity from the grid or photovoltaic systems can be stored in battery packs. At night, the inverter mode can supply power, enabling peak-valley electricity cost optimization and reducing overall power expenses.
